Kailangan ba ng PBA ng mga Bagong Reperi?

Di naman siguro bago kahit sa mga Liga ng Barangay o Intrams sa isang paaralan ang pagrereklamo natin sa mga reperi pag may mga maling tawag sila. At madalas ay nagagalit tayo sa kanila, pero ang iniisip na lang natin ay sige na nga, hindi naman kasi lahat nakikita ng mga reperi eh, tao rin naman sila.

Pero hindi na biro ang mga nangyayari sa isa sa mga prestihiyosong Liga sa Asya. Parang normal na bawat laro na may mga tawag na talagang hindi nakakaaya  sa mga nanunuod. 

Bakit madalas ng hindi "consistent" ang mga tawag ng reperi? Nasisira sa mga  tawag na yan ang potensyal ng isang magandang laro.

Umaasa ang Barberspeak Blog na maayos ng mga Opisyal ng Liga ang  mga problema sa mga Reperi. Wag sana madungisan ang kredibilidad ng Liga dahil sa kanila.

No Nation, Planet or even a Universe will DETHRONE the Barangay!

"Dethroning the "Barangay" is a harder task than winning a championship in the PBA.  It's not about popularity, it's about that special tradition that inherits in every "Barangay" loyalist. That tradition is passed to a generation to the next generation."

Two weeks ago, the comment of Llamados' star forward Joe Devance shocked the Basketball World when he said on his tweet that the so called "BmegPlanet" was louder in Araneta against the "Barangay" of Ginebra. While that statement bring chills to the Llamados' loyalists, the fans of the GinKings started to debate in different Social Networks.

That Debate was intensify a little higher when last Tuesday, during the Bmeg-TnT match, the total gate attendance on Araneta was about 10 Thousand People.  With that development, the "BmegPlanet" started to debate that FINALLY their team Llamados led by James Yap is now the NEW darling of the Crowd.

With respect to the legions of Bmeg Fans, yes, their fanbase is big, BUT, BUT, BUT, I will ask you, SERIOUSLY did you even think that the "10 thousand people" was enough? or that the number of fans who watched that game was all part of the Bmeg Planet. C'mon let's all be realistic, your team is a serious contender for the championship, but as the crowd darling? There is no COMPETITION at all.

PBA PREVIEW PART 1

THE 37TH SEASON of the Philippine Basketball Association will start this Sunday (October 2, 2011). This will be an exciting season for the basketball fans because of some notable players/coaches movements. Similarly, the much-awaited Smart Gilas players who recently gave our country a 4th place finish will finally show their stuff in the professional level. Let us now discuss the the first group of teams. 

• ALASKA ACES
• Key Returnees: LA Tenorio, Cyrus Baguio, and Sonny Thoss ( The Big three of the Aces are expected to lead their team to the championship level of competition. With the loss of Coach Tim Cone, this players must initiate to motivate their teammates.)
• Key Loss: Tim Cone ( No explanation needed, 22 years of leadership to the Aces is no joke. But no worries for the fans of the Aces, Coach Joel Banal is a good choice to change Coach Cone.)
• Key Acquisitions: Marnel Baracael, Eric Salamat ( With the aging Tony DelaCruz, a versatile guy like Marnel will be a good predecessor. Meanwhile, adding former Eagle Eric Salamat will stabilize the troubled guard position of the Aces.)
• Big Question: What will happpen to Mark Borboran?
• Prediction: Aces will play around 5th-7th position in the elimination round, but with the cohesion of the team, we will see a better aces come play off time.

only 15 PBA players earning Max salary?!

It's hard to believe that there is only 15 PBA players who is earning Maximum Salary, is this a case of Miami Heat team style where the Big Three( Lbj, Wade, Bosh) agreed to decrease their salary to be able to be in one team? Or is this a case of under the table issue that is not new in the league?

It is quite amazing on our part knowing that there are still many notable players that is not getting a max salary. This is some kind of a funny list, one good example is the Reigning MVP Jimmy Alapag, he even doesn't earn Max Salary. How about Petron's Santos, Washington, and Hontiveros? their not having having max salaries as well? Petron is a lucky team because of having 2 BPC awardees last season that doesn't EVEN earn maximum salary. 

If the list given by the PBA is accurate, then I must say that Alaska Aces is the team that players really want to go to. Man, they are the team who has the most Players with Max Salary. But why did Joe DeVance wanna get traded? hmmmmm.


This issue gave the league a big blow, Barber Speak Blog hope that this will be resolve IMMEDIATELY.

The story about the Llamados and Coach Tim Cone

Barber Speak TIME FRAME:

Before the draft:

• There are rumors about Coach Tim Cone was being eyed by the Bmeg Llamados to be their coach. 
• Coach Jong Uichico was also eyed as the next head coach.
• There are also rumors pointing that Jojo Lastimosa or Joel Banal will be the next head coach of the Aces.

During Draft Day:

• Tim Cone was still the head coach for the Aces.
• Jorge Gallent was still the head coach for the Llamados.

After the draft (Aug. 30, 2011):

• The coaching rumor came to end when the Llamados appointed Assistant Coach Richard Del Rosario to be the Acting head coach for the 37th season of the PBA.

Sept. 1, 2011:

• Tim Cone was released by the Aces.
• Joel Banal was named at the new head coach for the Aces.

Sept. 2, 2011:

• Some reports suggests that Tim Cone was having a meeting with some high SMC officials. 
• New Rumor: Tim Cone as the Consultant for the Llamados.

Adding Tim Cone to the talents of SMC means only that the Management was not happy by the way TnT( led by MVP) dominated the 36th season of the PBA that almost gave them a grandslam. If this rumor is true, Bmeg will definitely be a team to beat for the upcoming season. The Llamados using the triangle offense will mean trouble for the opposition.

2011 Mock Draft

The PBA 36th season comes to an end last night. And everyone are now focused to the 36 applicants for the 2011 Annual Draft. Our group thought of giving you guys a mock draft for the first round.

The batch of applicants this Annual Draft is definitely one of the deepest in the last 10 years. That's why this draft is really interesting. Let us now start:

FIRST PICK : POWERADE

Philippe's Choice: PG 5-9 JV CASIO

Powerade pointguards: Celino Cruz, Jai Reyes, and Chico Lanete

Although their PG's are respectable, we can see that none of the three can ease the weight that Gary David has on his shoulder. That's why they need a young, stable and clutch pointguard. That's why there's no doubt JV Casio is the right person for the job.

SECOND PICK: RAIN OR SHINE

Philippe's Choice: PG/SG 6-0 PAUL LEE

The Elasto Painters already has a complete line-up. They have the man power needed in every position. And therefore getting the best talent available will be their motto in this Sunday's draft. Definitely the former hotshot of UE Red Warriors fits the job. Having Paul Lee will give them a scoring dimension that will compromise to their star Gabe Norwood creating talent. With Paul and Buenafe alternating in SG position, it will give a big boost for the Painter's campaign next season.

THIRD PICK: AIR 21

Philippe's Choice: PF/C 6-6 JASON BALLESTEROS

After giving their quality big men away in last season(Jay R Reyes, Al-Hussaini, Baclao) and already have man power in the guard position ( Hontiveros, Miller, Artadi, Arboleda), It's time for air21 to get a quality big man again. Having Salvador, Pena, and Sharma is not enough if they want to be competitive for the next season. Yes, Ballesteros is a bench warmer for our RP team, but let us not forget, he is a former Main Man for the SSC Stags, and the most important thing is he is DEFENDING our Naturalized Player Marcus Douthit and former PBA MVP Asi Taulava in practice. Now, do Jason deserve the 3rd pick? definitely YES.

FOURTH PICK : POWERADE

Philippe's Choice: SF 6-3 MARCIO LASSITER

Having bad games since the Ginebra-Smart Gilas semifinal series of the PBA's Commisioners Cup gives Marcio Lassiter a bad impression for this year's draft. Choker is one word that defines Marcio's game for the last 3 months. But let us not forget he can score 20-30 points every given night if he wants to. He just need to regain his confidence and with that maybe the Scoring Side of Marcio will return. He is also a good defender with good leaping ability. Having him, Casio and Sean Anthony will really give the franchise's fans reasons to smile.

FIFTH PICK : SHOPINAS

Philippe's Choice: PG 5-10 ANDY BARROCA

For a rebulding team like Shopinas, and having Franz Pumaren as their coach, it is a wise move to get a ready made point guard like Andy. Him as the primary court general of Shopinas will give Franz pumaren an easier job.

SIXTH PICK : ALASKA

Philippe's Choice: SF/SG 6-3 CHRIS LUTZ

Lutz is a good defender, smart player and a shooter. That is what alaska needed, a smart player that will fit to their triangle offense. I can see the second coming of Tony DelaCruz with a wider range.

SEVENTH PICK : TALK N TEXT

Philippe's Choice: PG/SG 5-11 ERIC SALAMAT

TNT is a COMPLETE team. But one problem that exposed in the Petron-Tnt series is their lack of PG's. Castro and Alapag is not enough. Ryan Reyes is better playing the two spot. That's why getting Salamat will solve Tnt's problem. And remember, Eric's a former eagle ;)

EIGHT PICK : PETRON

Philippe's Choice: SG/SF 6-3 DYLAN ABABOU

A scoring guard is needed by Petron, after the departure of dondon, this is the obvious position needed to be fill in. There will be no import this time. Duncil and Hubalde will return to their original mother team, and Ababou is the perfect choice.

NINTH PICK : GINEBRA

Philippe's Choice: SF/PF 6-4 MARNEL BARACAEL

As much as Ginebra needed a taller big man, It is a sin to disregardMarnel as their 9th pick. Marnel defines the true character of a BGK player. Hussle, Attitude, Heart. Having him in the team will be a big help for the aging kings.

TENTH PICK : AIR21

Philippe's Choice: C 6-7 MAGI SISON

Remember 2002 when this same franchise chose St. Francis of Assisi's stalwart Yancy De Ocampo? Magi looks like Yancy's carbon copy, but a smaller and agile big man. He is the next best big man after ballesteros. But we will not be surprised if he get traded on that same day.

2011 GOVERNOR'S CUP Game 7 Insights:

Last night was a big day for Philippine Basketball. The hype of the 7th game of the PBA finals did not disappoint the followers of the league. Don't let the 12 points win of Petron misleads you. It was really a close, intense game that even the "Living Legend" Sonny Jaworski enjoyed the game in the stands. I will post some insights about the game:

• Arwind Santos' block to Ranidel de Ocampo justifies his endorsement as the SAPAL KING of the PBA.
• Jason "The Blurr" Castro proved that he is the new MAIN MAN of the Tropang Texters. SERIOUSLY. His 2 points output did not reflect on how much of a factor Jason was last night.
• Larry Fonacier's "Baldog" three point shot is a proof on how BAD his game was yesterday.
• Coach Ato Agustin's Championship speech is one of the most comic scene in that 7 game series. But I admit, some of his statements is "below the belt" and bad for the league.
