Okay game na, etong mga sasabihin ko eh opinyon ko lang naman sa mga nangyayari. Wala akong sinisisi oh anu man, pero sa tingin ko eh meron din naman akong mga kabarangay na pareho ang aming mga sentimyento.

Para sa akin, walang mali sa ginagawa ni Mark "The Spark" Caguioa sa mga pagpuna niya sa Twin Towers ng Ginebra. Bilang isang leader isang magandang ehemplo ang pinapakita niya sa pagpuna ng kakulangan ng kanyang mga kakampi.

Pero isang bagay lang ang gusto kong ipunto, hindi ba pwede na sa "dugout"o "gym" na lang niya sila punahin? At wag nang ilabas sa media?

Kasi aminin natin, sa mga naglalabasan mga articles, may mga "HATERS" na natutuwa sa mga ganyan( lalo na ang nagreact si Japeth) at  gumagawa ng mga kuro kuro na kesyo nakakasira daw ng team ang ginagawa ni Mark at Japeth.

Pero masisisi ba natin si Japeth at Greg? OO, may mga larong natatalo tayo sa rebound, pero bakit ba tayo natatalo? Alam naman natin na mahilig humabol sa "palpal" sina JA at GS, at pag ganun ang nangyayari may tendency talaga na ang makakakuha ng rebound eh yung bantay ng twin towers ng barangay na humahabol sa palpal.

Sa tingin niyo, ano ang solusyon sa bagay na yun? Hindi na pumalpal sina JA at GS? Syempre hindi, dyan pumapasok ang "Gang Rebounding". Sa bagay na yun, dadami ang rebounds natin at mas dadami ang ball possessions natin.

Sa apat na players natin, si LA lang ang umangat ang rebounding stat, di ko sinasabi na may malaking pagbaba ang 3 pa natin kabarangay pagdating sa rebounding, pero bakit bumaba? Dahil sobrang umasa ba sa Twin Towers?

Kaya kung gusto manalo sa rebounding battle, mag tulong tulong :) Hindi rason na may matangkad sa team nyo, kasi at the end of the day, 5 on 5 pa din ang laro sa PBA :)

2013 PBA Mock Draft

The PBA 38th season comes to an end last friday and everyone are now focused to the 85 applicants for the 2013 Annual Draft. Our group thought of giving you guys a mock draft for the first round. 

FIRST PICK - BARANGAY GINEBRA SAN MIGUEL

Philip's Choice - Greg Slaughter

• As much as I want Ian to be a Kabarangay, we can't just let this 7'0 ft behemoth passed. For Ginebra, all the scoring firepower is there, what they really need is a Center that will deflect shots, grabbed rebounds, do some Akagi dunks, and lastly be the JuneMar Fajardo stopper. Let's face it, in no time JF will dominate PBA, and every team wants someone that will somehow stop JF, and Ginebra is lucky to get someone that not only can stop JF, but is also is familiar with his game.

SECOND PICK - SAN MIG COFFEE MIXERS

Philip's Choice - Ian Sangalang

• Honestly, my personal choice for this team is Raymond Almazan. Why? since the Mixers strive for defense, we can see the next Marc Pingris in Raymond. But anyway Coach Tim already said it, they will get Ian or Greg depends on who is available. And we can't go wrong with that one, since everyone knows how talented this lefty big man from Pampanga is.

THIRD PICK - ROS ELASTO PAINTERS

Philip's Choice - Raymond Almazan

• It's not a secret that ROS needs a big man for this year's draft. And who is more fitting for this job? It's someone that is already practicing with them(during the NCAA break because of FIBA Asia), and to top it all, it's someone that is playing under a coach that is an Assistant in this team ;)  

FOURTH PICK - BARAKO BULL ENERGY COLA

Philip's Choice - RR Garcia

• I believe that the 4th and 5th pick will be for RR and Terrence's place. I chose RR because I felt that he between the two, he has the more PBA ready game. I see him as a future starting guard for the lower bracketed - less superstar team. 

FIFTH PICK - BARAKO BULL ENERGY COLA

Philip's Choice - Terrence Romeo

• Yes, many hates how Romeo plays. But we must admit that he is one of the most talented player in this year's draft. He can be a 6th man/sparkplug of any PBA team. YES, ANY PBA TEAM. If his game matures, he will be a hot commodity in the league. 

SIXTH PICK - BARAKO BULL ENERGY COLA

Philip's Choice - James Forrester

• Barako Bull has many wing players but they can't let this kind of talent go. Forrester is like a poor man shorter Chris Ellis but with a lot of toughness.  One thing that the coaches will like about this guy is that he can be that stopper of the scorer of the other team. And with that alone, can give their team a lot of upsides.

SEVENTH PICK - GLOBAL PORT BATANG PIER

Philip's Choice - Jeric Teng

• With Gary David now playing for Meralco. This is the right time for the Batang Pier to get a scorer-shooter that will contribute right away to their team. Yes, Jeric is not that impressive when it comes to penetrating  but his shooting touch beyond the arc can really be a plus for this team. Also the fanbase of Jeric Teng is big. It can help GB's market ;)

EIGHT PICK - ALASKA ACES

Philip's Choice - Nico Salva

• The Next JC Intal without the hops. That is how I can describe Nico's game. Alaska is already a complete team, but with TDLC's guidance, he can help Nico to be like him. That aggressive defending plus the money in the bank midrange shot will let Nico play in the PBA for a long time. 

NINTH PICK - ROS ELASTO PAINTERS

Philip's Choice - Eric Camson

• It's so intriguing to see how will Eric Camson plays in the big league. He played 4 in ADU. But with the height of only 6'2, can he survive in this league? I see him as the better version of Ronnie Matias so I will not be surprise if Coach Yeng Guiao will get this guy.

TENTH PICK - SAN MIG COFFEE MIXERS

Philip's Choice - Alex Nuyles

• I'd like to see Justin Chua at the 10th spot. But with the current roster of this team plus the near addition of Ian Sangalang, I feel that Coach Tim will draft other talent. And with that one, I think that it is a wise choice to get a scorer/wing guy that can defend. Alex has a lot to prove after his short UAAP season a year ago. And with that motivation, I guess that he can crack some minutes in this deep team.

2013 PBA MVP: What's Your Take?

We are now again in the time where we will know who deserves to be the most "important" player in the PBA. There are already many debates of the fans of the players about who really deserves the award. Now let us see who are the contenders for this prestigious award.

The contenders for the MVP plum needs to be included in the TOP 5 of Highest Statistical Point average or a winner of atleast one of the 3 Best Player Award in this season. So far, there are only 2 sure contenders. They are Jayson Castro of Talk n Text (Philippine Cup BPC) and LA Tenorio of Ginebra (Commissioner's Cup BPC).

Rejoice Barangay fans! A "W" finally!

Though MC47 POTG award and proving why he was MVP, top scoring the game with 23 points, it was really a total effort on defense. Tenorio's steal at the first few minutes of the first quarter set the tone. Even MC47 had 4 steals to boot.

Though Barako Bull import, Evan Brock, tried to carry his team during the third, reality is, game was over at the half, ending it with a 13 point lead.

Meanwhile, Gin's Coach Alfrancis Chua blames former import Herber Hill for the team's woes.


In a report from interkasyon.com, Chua is quoted saying

“Yung depensa namin sa first three games, masama, siguro wala ring gana dahil kay Herbert Hill,”

I really don't know about this one sir. I have never heard, as far as I can recall, a great coach that has blamed any of his players for the loss.
 Blaming someone who is no longer here to defend himself? You've got some class there Mr.Chua.

Marquez thinks Pacquiao won. Pacquiao wants to fight Marquez in his home town.

We all know that the recent Manny Pacquiao fight has controversy written all over it. Some sports analysts would say that this is nothing short of a robbery.

I mean just read this:

Yahoo! Sports scored it 117-111 for Pacquiao, the same margin as Tim Dahlberg of the Associated Press and Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Dan Rafael of ESPN had it 118-110 for Pacquiao. HBO's Harold Lederman had it 119-109, or 11 rounds to one, for Pacquiao. -- Yahoo Sports

That being, it would be interesting to know what Juan Manuel Marquez, dubbed as Manny Pacquiao's greatest rival (outside Floyd Mayweather), thought of the results.

In the end of a Spanish/Mexican interview, Pacquiao asked JMM what he thought of the fight.
"I think Pacquiao won by at least 5 points", was JMM's reply, in Spanish of course.

JMM also asked MP which fight he prefers, Bradley or him.
"...for me I want [to fight]Marquez [for the] fourth time and what I want is... I want to do it in Mexico." Pacman answering with a smile.
For a boxer to challenge another in his own town is saying something. I think it's like saying, 'I've beaten you time and again, and just to shut everyone up, I'm gonna do it again in your home court!'

But then again, Pac has to finish off Tom Bradley on November before any fourth fight with JMM can happen.  Pac said it himself, he knows what to do. He needs to knock Bradley out the next time.



On a side note, it's nice to see that both fighters, JMM and Pacquiao shows mutual respect for each other outside the ring. Very professional. Kudos to both fighters!

CA 44's Drama, Comes To an End.

Former PBA Best Import Chris Alexander is making another drama in his basketball campaign in the Philippines. After posting tweets against SMC's  Noli Eala for his "pink slip", he now leaves his new team the Philippine Patriots to go to the United States. 

    During the start of the Commisioner's Cup,  CA44 was tapped by Ginebra's coach Siot Tangquincen to be their import. In 3 games he averaged 14 points, 20.33 rebounds, 2 assists, and almost 2 blocks in 3 games. In that span, the Gin Kings tallied 2 wins and a loss.

      

     But after the win against ROS in Dubai, the news broke out that he will be changed by Action Jackson Vroman. It became a nightmare for Chris Alexander. His barrage of tweets in his twitter account (@chrisalexander29) was a testament of how frustrated this behemoth is.

     After spending time in the US, he accepted the offer of the Philippine Patriots and his Philippine Agent Ms. Sheryl Reyes to play for the ABL. He agreed to play for the  Patriots and promised to get the team in the promised land. But after Ginebra got eliminated last Tuesday Night, it seems that CA has also no plans to stay in the country anymore. He quietly book a flight and LEAVE the Patriots.

What's next for CA44?

     News broke out that the Patriots wants Alexander to be banned in all FIBA sanction tournament in the world. If FIBA granted the request, it will bad news for this big guy. He will not be allowed to participate in any major basketball league in the world. Will that be the end of a prosperous career of Alexander the Great?

     Personally, I'm not a fan of his twitter barrage for 2 reasons alone. First, it makes the BGK fans hate Jax more ( which i thought was a reason of having Jax PRESSURED). Lastly, BGK was still active in the tournament when he started tweeting against his "pink slip".

     Yeah, I agree that maybe he got depressed, but it's not a reason to be unprofessional to his work. What will now happen to the campaign of the Patriots? Instead of them concentrating to the tournament, they will again find another replacement.

The Curious Case of Action "JAX" Vroman

       Can we conclude that Jax became the David Noel part 2??

      During the concluded elimination round of Commisioner's Cup, I admit I'm one of the people who admired the game of Ginebra's 6'10 COOL import Jackson Vroman. He's all around type of game fits the game of the well-loved team. He can run the fastbreaks, he can slam it home, he can have his own block party and lastly he can share the ball. AT THE SAME TIME, we saw how this behemoth argues with the refs all the time, I have a chance watch a game of BGK against TNT in Courtside seats, and I must say, he's like a grade schooler because of his temper. He has always something to say to the referees. But still, I thought that he's hot tempered attitude will not be a problem if he continues his brilliant game. 

     Here comes the semi finals against the Llamados, Manila Clasico as what we say. All the fans are all pumped up, without BGK's main guy MC47, the Ginebra faithfuls prayed that our BELOVED import will have great games. 

     Unfortunately, it did not happen. It's quite obvious with the body language of the team that they are not happy with the attitude of their import. He became like a local player with a normal game. It feels like he is just a player earning 100k per month. To top it all, the way he complains got worse to WORST. It's quite disappointing for a basketball fan (especially a BGK fan) on how this import reacts to the calls and to all the bumps.

      Fast Forward to game 4, Fouling OUT?? really Jax?? You're last two fouls is a testament that you don't want to play anymore! 

      Going back to the back question? Is he the David Noel part 2? I must say no! Because as much as we know, he's worse than that. PERIOD.

• We can't blame the referees for one reason alone, since 1975, that kind of calls remains in the league, the players it self must adjust to the calls of the refs.  And with a kind of import like Jax, adjustments will always be a problem.

Kailangan ba ng PBA ng mga Bagong Reperi?

Di naman siguro bago kahit sa mga Liga ng Barangay o Intrams sa isang paaralan ang pagrereklamo natin sa mga reperi pag may mga maling tawag sila. At madalas ay nagagalit tayo sa kanila, pero ang iniisip na lang natin ay sige na nga, hindi naman kasi lahat nakikita ng mga reperi eh, tao rin naman sila.

Pero hindi na biro ang mga nangyayari sa isa sa mga prestihiyosong Liga sa Asya. Parang normal na bawat laro na may mga tawag na talagang hindi nakakaaya  sa mga nanunuod. 

Bakit madalas ng hindi "consistent" ang mga tawag ng reperi? Nasisira sa mga  tawag na yan ang potensyal ng isang magandang laro.

Umaasa ang Barberspeak Blog na maayos ng mga Opisyal ng Liga ang  mga problema sa mga Reperi. Wag sana madungisan ang kredibilidad ng Liga dahil sa kanila.

A Bedan Point of View

I was hesitant writing an article about the San Beda – San Sebastian fracas due to the fact that hey, I’m a Bedan, and whatever I say here would sound biased towards my alma mater. But since fellow writter Philippe persuaded me to write this, here it goes:

All these happened inside San Beda College Mendiola’s St.Placid Sports Complex. It has two adjacent basketball courts separated by a hallway. On one court, was the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament between San Sebastian and the University of Perpetual Help System (women’s followed by men’s) while the San Beda Red Lions are having their practice on the other court.

To cut the story short, this is what happened as told by coach FL:

1.       The men's VT shouted racial slurs to Ola.

2.        Ola mentioned the incident to Coach FL.

3.       Coach FL approached the men's VT. At this point, mainit na daw ang both sides.

4.       Coach FL asked one Baste player to call the coach.

5.       Coach FL told Goyareb na ayusin niya yung gulo na sinimulan ng players niya.

6.       Nagsisigaw daw si Goyareb and he turned his back on FL habang minumura nito si FL.

7.       FL followed Goyareb to confront him. Goyareb turned to FL and threw a punch at FL.

8.       Chaos followed.

My Comments:

1.       I commend Baste’s women’s volleyball team, being caught in the crossfire as they try to protect Goyareb. Our prayers go out to those who were injured.

2.       It was a man to man fight (not that its right, but it only means that injury to the women’s team were all incidental).

3.       Where were Baste’s men volleyball team? Oh, they just looked.

4.       And what’s up with the Recto team starting a fracas at Mendiola? Bravery or Stupidity? To quote Olen Lim (coach Frankie’s wife) “You don’t ever come to our house and disrespect us! You were asking for it!”

5.       And to quote Miaka Lim “Our Red Lions are taught not to be racists and to treat our own as family and stick up for them if aggrieved, that’s what happened today.”

Developments as of this time:

1.       Coach Goyareb is filing charges against the whole RL.

2.       NCAA MANCOM will have an emergency meeting.



It is an unfortunate incident. May this incident bear good fruit after the smoke has cleared.

By the way, it would be most interesting to watch SSCR vs. SBC in this Monday's PCCL.

No Nation, Planet or even a Universe will DETHRONE the Barangay!

"Dethroning the "Barangay" is a harder task than winning a championship in the PBA.  It's not about popularity, it's about that special tradition that inherits in every "Barangay" loyalist. That tradition is passed to a generation to the next generation."

Two weeks ago, the comment of Llamados' star forward Joe Devance shocked the Basketball World when he said on his tweet that the so called "BmegPlanet" was louder in Araneta against the "Barangay" of Ginebra. While that statement bring chills to the Llamados' loyalists, the fans of the GinKings started to debate in different Social Networks.

That Debate was intensify a little higher when last Tuesday, during the Bmeg-TnT match, the total gate attendance on Araneta was about 10 Thousand People.  With that development, the "BmegPlanet" started to debate that FINALLY their team Llamados led by James Yap is now the NEW darling of the Crowd.

With respect to the legions of Bmeg Fans, yes, their fanbase is big, BUT, BUT, BUT, I will ask you, SERIOUSLY did you even think that the "10 thousand people" was enough? or that the number of fans who watched that game was all part of the Bmeg Planet. C'mon let's all be realistic, your team is a serious contender for the championship, but as the crowd darling? There is no COMPETITION at all.

Tracy McGrady to join bulls?

Should the NBA crisis end (which is anytime but soon), swingman Tracy McGrady will sign with the Chicago Bulls.


Tmac has familiarity with the current Bulls' coach Tom Thibodeau being that he part of the coaching staff in his Houston Rocket days.

Let's see Mac's average in Detroit where he suited up for a year:

• 8.0 points
• 3.5 rebounds
• 3.5 assists
• 23 minutes
• played 72 games

For a former scoring champ, this definitely ain't all-star numbers. However, Mac doesn't have to be a go to guy, just someone who can help DRose. If Mac can hit those jumpers more consistently than Korver's dismal play-off shooting,  he can be a good help. What's good about Mac's numbers was that he was able to play 72 games last year.

• Someone who can play defense

Tom Thibodeau is a defensive minded coach. We saw Tmac had his share of steals and blocked shots. Let's see if he can still do it in Chicago. However, coach and mac has familiarity with each other as they already worked with each other back in Houston.

Admittedly, I'm a Tmac fan, however, I don't see him being anywhere near his old form. I don't see him a game changer in Chicago, maybe at best, he would be like Antonion Mcdyess with the Spurs, an elderly statesman who's just there.

Last Tuesday, the 3 way trade between Ginebra-Bmeg-Barako has finally been completed. In the approved trade, Ginebra will get the services of Rico Maeirhofer ( from Bmeg ) and Allein Mailiksi( from Barako), the Llamados will get the shooting Giant Yancy De Ocampo( from Ginebra) and 2012 2nd round pick (from Ginebra), while Barako will get the former NCAA finals MVP Jimbo Aquino and a 2013 1st round pick (from Ginebra)

The proposals given can be interconnected or not, expect this trade atleast this month or next month. Team 1 is strugglling but their pride is so HIGH, we know how the management of this team handle trades, in Filipino "ayaw nila magpalugi".

Domination is the name of the Game: Barber Speak's reaction to Pacquiao-Marquez 3.

The most anticipated match of the year was filled again with questions. Did Pac deserves the win? Was Dinamita robbed big time? Will a 4th match happen in May? or Mayweather will now face Pac after witnessing Pac's vulnerability?

After watching the bout, I felt JuanMa deserves the win. He controlled the tempo of the bout. Pac was not his usual self, yes he still led in number of punches, but even a 15 year old boxing fan will notice Pacman's lack of activity. And maybe in that reason  alone I really thought JuanMa was robbed, but still there's something in my head saying that Pac maybe did something right to be able to get the Judges' approval.

If this match was a "Normal" Match, I will give this bout to JMM. But we must remember that this was a Championship match. The Logic will tell that "To be able to beat the Champion, You must DOMINATE the champion".  So the question now, did JuanMa dominated Manny? You'll be the judge.

I'll still GO with Marcus in 2013

The Basketball World was shaken after the rumor that Javale Mcgee is the next candidate for Naturalization. At first look, we can say that this legitimate center is a nice choice for the STARTING CENTER position of our Gilas Version 2. 

But how about our kababayan Marcus Douthit? What is next to this behemoth? 

Let us first discuss what can Pierre bring to the table.

• Javale Mcgee
• STRENGTHS 
1. This 23 year old monster is STILL not in his prime. 
2. Playing in the NBA gave this guy a first class training.
3. Being part of TEAM USA reserves is just a statement of how good he can be.
4. His intimidation factor can give Yi JianLian, Hamed Heddadi and other Asian Big Men a run for their money.
• WEAKNESSES
1. His J is still a suspect.
2. IF the plan of having him is final, and if the NBA resumes, how can he get the Chemistry we always need?
3. Do Pierre has the same attitude Big Daddy had?

Let us now go to the Reliable Big Daddy Douthit.

• Marcus Douthit
• STRENGTHS
1. In Filipino terms, Marcus is "SUBOK NA"
2. With him always available, we can say that the chemistry with him is always there.
3. Being an import in CBA, we can say that the competition he is playing is also World Class.
4. His Attitude fits in our Country.
• WEAKNESSES
1. He is aging.
2. Injury Prone.

BARBER SPEAK NOTES:

Personally, it would be nice to have Javale representing our country, but in 2013 I'll still go with Marcus as our Player. But looking in the future, Man! It is damn good! Having this two behemoth facing in the practice, it will definitely be good! Marcus teaching Javale some tricks and Javale polishing his J, it is like we are training a monster ready to explode in 2015.

PBA POWER RANKINGS

After a busy month, the crew of Barber Speak wanna say, "It's Nice to be BACK!"

POWER RANKINGS ( From the first 28 PBA Games):

• 1st Place: Barako Bull Energy (4-1 Win-Loss Record)

This veteran laden team is currently tied in second place of the standings, but this team deserves to be in the front seat of Power Rankings. After surprising all of us with a fiery 4 game winning streak, this team has become a contender for this year's Philippine Cup (This blog gave the team a top 8 prediction). A mix of good veteran players and fiery rookies lead by the Thriller and Dynamite, this team is now ready to bring back the Glory Years of the Ang Bumangga Giba Franchise. After Losing to Petron in their Opening Game, They return the favor to sister teams Ginebra and recently the Llamados. They also got a good win from the defending champion Talk n Text Tropang Texters. This team just wanna prove that they have a place in this league, and their franchise is no PUSH OVER anymore. 

• 2nd Place: Rain or Shine Elasto Painters ( 5-1 Win-Loss Record)

Paul Lee is here! That's the first thing you will hear about the noise that the Elasto Painters are giving to the League. But the success of this team is more than Paul Lee can give, this former "young team" is slowly but surely becoming a mature team and definitely peaking at the right time. With Gabe's all round performance, Jeff Chan's and Ronjay Buenafe's hot shooting, and with the Extra Rice duo of Belga and Quinahan, this team has become a team to reckon with this conference. Maybe some of you will ask, "why I only rank this team as 2nd place only?" It's because their performance is expected already. The Painters are the most balanced team in the league and the only Problem I see last September to this team is their Maturity. But it is quite obvious that maturity is not anymore a problem. I expect this team to advance in the semi final round.

• 3rd Place: Talk n Text Tropang Texters ( 4-1 Win-Loss Record)

No explanation needed, I will really be surprise if we will not see this team in the Finals.

• 4th Place: Petron Blaze Boosters ( 3-3 Win-Loss Record)

The Boosters had a good start after winning their first three games. But injury haunt them when Hontiveros (out 6 months) and Miranda got injuries. I cannot blame the team with their 3 game slump. It's just hard to win when your only playing with 10 players and only ONE healthy Point Guard. With their game against the Texters, Alex Cabagnot played the whole 48 minutes and seriously Ato Agustin is the person to blame. Why did you not get the 14th player in time? Why did you not give A-Cab a rest? Yes he is only the point guard available, but that's not a reason, remember, the texters feed their game with ENERGY, how can you match your opponent with energy if your players don't have the rest their needed? 

• 5th Place: Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings (3-2 Win Loss Record) 

Seriously, I DID NOT expect that I will rank Ginebra in the upper echelon of the Power Rankings. Their Game is really UNORGANIZED, the only good thing I can see with this team is clutch and hardwork. I really think personally, that trading young players like jimbo is not a solution, they need younger legs, that's why IF I will ask for a trade, the names of Yancy De Ocampo, and Ronald Tubid are the first guys that will float in my mind. 

• 6th Place-7th Place(tie): Meralco Bolts and Powerade Tigers 
• 8th Place: Bmeg Llamados
• 9th Place: Shopinas Clickers
• 10th Place: Alaska Aces
